This is a collection of actual complaints made by the foreign faculty at Kansai Gaidai University. What are they complaining about? Everything from students using the elevators instead of the stairs to, God forbid, students playing too noisily on the recreation field. Although the teachers themselves see these as legitimate complaints, some would argue they are examples of cultural dissonance between the host culture and the complainants' native cultures. Why the hell does Kansai Gaidai have to give us free apartments in the first place? I would personally rather execute my God given right to deal with legalized discrimination practices against foreigners, "key money" security payments of up to three months rent, and a long commute to class on hot, smelly, overcrowded trains. As an American, I have this right!

Kansai Gaidai is the most wonderful University. The staff that I met were some of the most interesting people I have ever had the privlege to know. Why do you feel that as an American you have any god given right? What are you doing in another country at all if you are going to parade around epecting to be treated like you would in America. Have you ever heard that saying when in Rome do as the Romans? Gaidai is trying to make the adjustment as smooth as possible for the staff. I imagine this is because of those who come to Japan expecting it to be just like the country they left. It is rude and disrespectful to feel that they are giving you a free apartment because they are discriminating against you. I've never heard of discrimination coming with such genorosity. There are good and bad things to every country and culture, but you have to take the total package. America isn't perfect either. In Japan I can go to the Dr. and get refunded 80 percent I don't have that in the U.S.

Why the hell indeed! It is a total wast of money. I wonder how much tuition fees could be reduced if this special treatment is abolished (may be a peanut?).
However, I understand the concept behind this: the college loves English speaking natives (for fellow students to give opportunity without spending a fortune to go abroad )and most importantly, the foreigners may face great dificulties in finding their accomodation in Hirakata as many ,if not most, Japanese landlords prefer not to take irresponsible, barbarous and unpaid runner gaigjins. Do you know how many gaijins in Japan try to take free taxi ride?
